Limbo

The funny thing, of course, is that the Catholic church abolished the concept of "limbo" not so long ago. I think (or sort of know in the kind of way that these days, we "know" a lot of things, without actually knowing) that there was (is?) a similar concept in Buddhism - I think there's a whole passage in Lafacadio Hearn's wonderful writing about Japan (Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan) about this.
